Apérothérapie sold an aperitif box delivered at home, under the line « Notre convivialité dans votre salon ». The project started in September 2016 with a holding page: the logo on black, the promise, and a single sentence saying the shop was about to open. It was the shop window for the time the brand was getting ready, and it fitted in a minimal theme.

The project in detail

The shop followed in October. It runs on WooCommerce and Storefront, with a child theme written for the brand: the mosaic on the home page, four entries to the box, the products, the brand and the press, then the full funnel, product page, cart and customer account. Fifteen plugins completed the set, from the contact form to audience tracking.

The two repositories tell the same story at two moments: the development one stops in October 2016, after fifty-one commits, when the holding page gives way to the shop; the production one runs to January 2017 and holds three hundred and twenty-two commits. The screenshots shown here come from those two databases brought back up locally, not from a web archive.

The site is no longer online. It remains interesting for what it shows of a method: open with a holding page that really exists, rather than a domain that does not answer, then ship the shop once the catalogue is ready.

Frequently asked questions

Should you wait for the site to be ready before opening a domain?

No, and it is a missed opportunity. On Apérothérapie a careful holding page held the domain for a month: the logo, the promise and a rough date are enough to catch the first visitors instead of serving them an error.

Is WooCommerce suitable for a small shop?

Yes, when the client wants to manage the catalogue themselves. Apérothérapie ran on WooCommerce and a Storefront child theme: the look belonged to the brand, the rest came from a proven base there was no reason to rewrite.
